                      Ross Oil Junior Football Championship

                        Kilmurry 1-13  Clondrohid 0-6

Kilmurry  had an easier victory than expected when overcoming the challenge of Clondrohid at Annahala.  Man of the Match James Kelleher had a goal for Kilmurry after only seven minutes and this score gave the winners an edge they never looked like losing subsequently.  Kilmurry led by 1-7 to 0-3 at half time but Clondrohid did stage a spirited fight back on the resumption to cut the deficit to four points.  However Kilmurry settled down again and William Buckley's point from a free in the 43rd minute got them over the scare and the final quarter was dominated by Kilmurry who scored a further five points without reply.  Light rain was falling as this game started, temperatures were up on recent levels and there was little or no breeze.  Aidan Kelleher had Clondrohid in front after three minutes play as his side started well, playing towards the fine new pavilion at Annahala.  Three minutes later the sides were level when Davie O'Halloran parted to William Buckley and the latter sent over in dashing style.  A minute later the game took a decisive turn in Kilmurry's favour when Alan O'Sullivan kicked goalwards, James Kelleher grabbed possession under pressure and broke clear of his marker before advancing and coolly placing the ball wide of Brendan Kelleher in the Clondrohid goal.   James Kelleher continued to cause Clondrohid problems all through the first half.  Declan Kelleher set up Paddy Lynch for an excellent point for Clondrohid but as the first quarter came to a close, Dave O'Halloran pointed a free and Kilmurry had a one goal advantage at this stage.  Kilmurry dominated in the second quarter and outscored their opponents by five points to one.  Stephen Down had a point in the 16th minute and William Buckley pointed a free in the 20th minute.  Wing back Conor O'Leary had a smashing point for Clondrohid in reply but William Buckley pointed another free in the 22nd minute, Dave O'Halloran had a point from play three minutes later and James Kelleher finished the half with a late point to give Kilmurry a 1-7 to 0-3 lead at the half way mark.  Clondrohid enjoyed their best period of the match in the third quarter.  Trevor O'Brien pointed a ‘45' in the 34th minute and Paddy Lynch followed with a point from a free three minutes later. With Jeremy O'Sullivan breaking forward out of defence and Trevor O'Brien, Paddy Lynch and Aidan Kelleher driving them on, they had Kilmurry on the back foot for a period and Paddy Lynch's point in the 38th minute had the gap reduced to 1-7 to 0-6.  Kilmurry needed a score to settle and come it did eventually when James Kelleher was held back and William Buckley pointed the resultant free from the right in the 43rd minute.  This score signalled the end of the Clondrohid resistance and Kilmurry finished strongly with their midfield again reasserting themselves and their defence impregnable.  Scorers: Kilmurry: J. Kelleher 1-2, Wm. Buckley 0-5 (0-4 frees), A. O'Sullivan 0-2, D. O'Halloran 0-2 (0-1 free), S. Down and D. Creedon (a free) 0-1 each. Clondrohid: P. Lynch 0-2 (0-1 free), A. Kelleher, D. Kelleher, C.                        Macroom  1-12   Ballinora 0-4

 .

The last of the Mid Cork Junior football championship first round ties was decided at Cloughduv where Macroom juniors had a comfortable win over Ballinora, another club second team.  Macroom started well, and did well enough to stay in front but their interval lead of 1-6 to 0-4 was not a lead that would guarantee ultimate victory.  The Ballinora attack showed enough promise in the first half to suggest that they would cause serious problems later. Macroom however went on the offensive from the restart and got on top around the middle of the field.  Their attack added two further points and when Ballinora lost a man to a second yellow card in the 38th minute the writing was on the wall for their chances and  Macroom were in control to the finish.Midfielder David Crotty put Ballinora in front with a point after four minutes but Macroom replied with a fine goal from Conor Hurley two minutes later, the chance set up by John Ryan.  John Ryan then pointed a free and Darren Creed added a point from play in the 8th minute.  Ballinora were dangerous on the break in attack and Jurgen Werner, the ex Rossa's forward, was causing problems with his well timed runs.  Werner pointed a free in the 10th minute but Macroom replied with points from Patrick Kelleher and Conor Hurley, both well-taken scores.  Jurgen Werner pointed another free in the 20th minute but again Macroom replied with points from Hurley and Kelleher.  Jurgen Werner's third point from a free just before half time left his side five points adrift at the break, trailing Macroom 1-6 to 0-4.Macroom on the restart were full of drive and got an early boost from a John Ryan point.  In the 37th minute Ryan pointed again and a minute later Ballinora lost a forward to a second yellow card and this signalled the end of their chances of victory.  Macroom were playing well now, in control in most areas and they added a point apiece from Conor Hurley and Darren Creed to lead by 1-10 to 0-4 by the 40th minute.  The Macroom defence with Martin O'Donnell and Richard McSweeney prominent covered quickly and tackled well.  Pat Kelleher and David Horgan added points for Macroom who now go on to Round Three while Ballinora face 2011 champions Donoughmore in the loser's round.   Scorers: Macroom: C Hurley 1-3, J Ryan 0-3 (0-1 free), P Kelleher 0-3 (0-1 free), D Creed 0-2, D Horgan 0-1.  Ballinora: J Werner 0-3 (frees), D Crotty 0-1.                                                             Macroom: Dylan Dineen: James O'Connor, Concubhair Murray, Martin O'Donnell: Richard McSweeney, Paul Kelleher, David Cotter: Kieran O'Shea, Brian Tiernan: Darren Creed, David Horgan, Colm Casey; Patrick Kelleher, John Ryan, Conor Hurley.
