Muskerry U16 Hurling 2012
This year Muskerry U16 Hurlers entered the Munster Inter-Divisional âA' Hurling tournament. Having won the Steve Nolan âB' tournament and the Dick Barrett âB' tournament at u14 and u15 over the previous years, the team was entered into the âA' competition this year. This competition involves county development squads from other Munster counties and Cork's âA' divisional teams. Needless to say this is juvenile hurling at a very high level so was a great experience and challenge for our squad.
The qualifier rounds took place on the Saturday of the May bank holiday weekend at Killeagh G.A.A grounds in East Cork. Muskerry's first match was against the hosts Imokilly. Muskerry started well and at half time led Imokilly by 2 points. In a fast paced 2nd half Imokilly's depth shone through, with a hard working half-back line, went on the win by 3 points.
Next up was South/East Limerick development squad. Who already defeated West Waterdford well. In a great game of hurling that went from end to end Limerick emerged victorious by 1 point, the minimum! For the last game both Waterford and ourselves, knowing we wouldn't qualify for the finals, played out a high-scoring, pulsating match where all members of the squads got full game-time.
We returned very satisfied with the day and the experience of playing against all these inter-county players. The future for these Muskerry players looks very bright indeed. A huge achievement.
We look forward to working with these players again in the future.
The players and mentors then enjoyed a wholesome meal at the Oven's Bar which was kindly funded by the Muskerry Division.
The squad was comprised of players from: Blarney, Eire Og, Inniscarra, Aughabulloge, Cloughduv, Ballinora, Grenagh, and Dripsey clubs.
Selectors: Dan Creedon, Ray Murphy, John O'Connell & Jon Darby
Special thanks for all their help to Kevin Mullins, Paul Lineman and Bridget Weeks (First-Aid)
Thanks also to the clubs who provided us with pitches and facilities to train on.
