Kilmurry                                    1-15

Iveleary                                     1-11

Kilmurry were crowned    Ross Oil Mid- Cork Junior 'A' Football Champions following their magnificent victory over Iveleary at Annahala on Saturday night.  William Buckley put in a man-of-the -match performance and his contribution of 1-8 went a long way to deciding this contest.  The Kilmurry corner-forward was in irrestible form both from play and placed efforts.

This was a cracking championship final and both sides deserve tremendous credit for their efforts. Kilmurry played against the elements in the opening half but crucially they held a one point lead at half-time.  They enjoyed plenty of possession following the break and held a three point advantage by the end of the third quarter.

A resolute Kilmurry defence held firm as Iveleary desperately tried to engineer a goal scoring opportunity in the closing stages of the game.    Kilmurry's midfielder James White powered his l forward in the final quarter, kicking two points him while also putting James Kelleher through for another score .

William Buckley signalled his intent and kicked the opening score of this game from a placed effort. Cork minor star Cathal Vaughan looked really sharp in the opening exchanges and he opened his account with a classy point from a placed effort.  A well worked Kilmurry team move saw Buckley convert from play which left the sides level, at 0-2 apiece after 8 minutes.

Vaughan converted a couple of placed efforts to edge Iveleary ahead but Buckley replied by landing a beauty, to keep his side in touch.  A powerful run from James White resulted in an inspirational score which left the minimum between the teams.  Buckley continued his flawless kicking by landing another couple of frees and reclaim the lead for   his side.

Minutes later, Kilmurry received a huge boost after Greg Barrett knocked down the ball to Buckley, who placed his shot in the corner of the net.  However, their celebrations were short lived as a magnificent pass from Vaughan found Brian Cronin inside the Kilmurry defence and the lively corner forward blasted to the roof of the net.  A thundering run from Iveleary's midfielder Ed Buckley levelled the scoring, before Buckley clipped over to ensure Kilmurry led by the minimum at the break.

On the Resumption, a brace from Vaughan had the inchigeela side in front again.  To their credit Kilmurry responded in tremendous style with three unanswered points from, Greg Barrett, William Buckley and the improving David O'Halloran. Moments later Buckley was denied a second goal by a superb save from Jamie Cronin.  Iveleary reduced the gap to two points following a well taken score from their hard working full-forward Ger Mc Sweeney.

Kilmurry went on to dominate the closing stages of the game with former Cork minor  James White showing his class  with a couple of terrific scores from distance. Iveleary desperately tried to find an opening but the Kilmurry defence held firm and there were wild scenes of jubilations at the final whistle. A terrific Championship Final and a great evening for Kilmurry GAA Club.  Finally, a word of congratulations to the host club Kilmichael, who had everything organised to perfection while referee Miah Moynihan had an excellent game throughout a very sporting contest.
