Blarney 1-12 Grenagh 0-13

Mid-Cork Junior A Hurling League - 11th May - Blarney - 7.30pm

Blarney beat Grenagh in a hard fought encounter in Blarney on a beautiful evening for hurling on Friday May 11th. The sides exchanged points in a bright opening before Blarney earned a free which full forward Johnny Hurley drove to the net to put Blarney a goal up. Blarney were playing with the aid of the breeze but the game was well-balanced throughout the first half. When the whistle went for half time Blarney had opened the gap to 4 points, with Johnny Hurley and James Hughes getting on the scoresheet from frees and Ray O'Donovan scoring a fine point from play. Grenagh for their part were battling against a strong Blarney defence, and were denied a great goal opportunity by a great save from Richard O'Shea.
The sides were evenly matched again in the second half, with Julian O'Donoghue and Eoghan Murphy particularly strong in the Blarney defence as they held back a strong Grenagh challenge. Grenagh reduced the gap to a single point on a number of occasions but Blarney kept their noses in front with Johnny Hurley from the wing and Ciaran Buckley after a strong run from midfield getting the pick of the points. Grenagh were pushing for a goal through the final ten minutes but once again Richard O'Shea was up to the task with another outstanding stop, to leave a final scoreline of Blarney 1-12, Grenagh 0-13.
