Macroom Motors U21 A Championship - Kilmurry v Cill Na Martra..

April 21, 2017

The Macroom Motors Muskerry U21 A Football Championship Final replay is the highlight of this weekend’s Muskerry division fixtures. Cill na Martra and Kilmurry will renew battle tomorrow in Macroom, with a 7pm throw in, after both sides drew 1-15 apiece in the drawn game two weeks ago. The expectation is that another very tight contest is in store.

Cill na Martra would probably have been the happier of both sides leaving Macroom two weeks, after they trailed Kilmurry 1-13 to 1-9 approaching the 40th minute and could have been further behind. But huge credit must go to Cill na Martra, with Micheál Ó Deasúna switched to full-forward and Daniel Ó Duinnin deployed at centre-forward key to their revival. They needed a Tadhg Ó Corcora 62nd minute point to send the game to a replay.

Kevin O’ Sullivan’s side should improve tomorrow. Antóin Ó Cuan was highly impressive at full-back, marshalling Sean Warren, while also chipping in with two points. Ó Corcora worked tirelessly at wing-back with his darting runs causing problems, while in the forward line Dean Mac Cárthaigh and Damien Ó Hurdail were particularly eye catching.

Kilmurry started very positive two weeks ago, showing no sign of nerves leading 0-5 to 0-2 after 15 minutes, but they would have been concerned by the next eight minutes, outscored 1-5 to 0-1. Kilmurry did find their feet again, and would have felt they could have been further than the four points ahead by the 40th minute.

William Ronan, Fionn Warren and Liam O’ Sullivan (All under the age 19) didn’t put a foot wrong in the drawn game and will be key again in less than 24 hours’ time. Liam Wall and John O’ Mullane got a bit of joy in midfield, while James O’ Mullane, Joe Ryan and Eoghan Clifford all excelled up front.

The likelihood is that it will be close, and it might even take extra-time to separate the teams. A hesitant vote for Cill na Martra.
