A cracking Macroom Motors U21 A Final was the talk of the division after a classic final.
The 2017 Macroom Motors Muskerry U21 A Football Championship Final will be going to a replay after Cill na Martra and Kilmurry couldn’t be separated last Saturday in Macroom on a scoreline of 1-15 apiece. It was a cracking game of football and at the end, most would agree a draw was a fair result on the night.
Cill na Martra scored 1-3 without reply just before the 25th minute, with Seán Ó Cróinin bagging the goal that pushed them 1-7 to 0-6 ahead. But Kilmurry reeled them in before the break kicking five of the last six points of the half to go in level at the short whistle, 1-8 to 0-11.
Ten minutes into the second-half, Kilmurry led by four points, 1-13 to 1-9, with Joe Ryan the goal scorer. Cill na Martra registered five of the next six points to level the game at 1-14 each with five minutes remaining, but Kilmurry went ahead again. It looked destined the trophy would be heading back to Kilmurry for the first time since 1971, until Tadhg Ó Corcora scored a long range point near the 45 metre line two minutes into injury time, after patient build up play and in the process it salvaged a deserved draw for Cill na Martra. At the time of writing, there was no date for the replay.
There are three games down for decision in the Quishs Super Valu Junior Football League Division 1 this weekend, Clondrohid host Iveleary tomorrow at 4.30pm, Ballincollig welcome Donoughmore tomorrow evening with a 6pm throw in. Finally, congratulations to Chris Óg Jones, the Auld Triangle and Muskerry Sports Star Award winner for the month of March. The Iveleary sharpshooter was in fantastic form in March helping his club reach the Muskerry U21 C Football Championship Final. The 18 year old scored a remarkable 4-7 to help his side overcome the gritty challenge of Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh in the decider, on a score line of 5-8 to 1-19 almost four weeks ago.
