Big Wins for Kilmurry and Canovee...............

There were wins for Canovee and Kilmurry respectively last Saturday evening in the Muskerry junior A football championship double header at Coachford. First up, Canovee who took care of  Béal Áthan Ghaorthaidh on a score line of 3-17 to 0-4 in the opening round. The winners surged into a 1-4 to 0-1 lead after the first quarter, Conor Hughes registering the green flag. The one way traffic continued, the Carrigadrohid side notching up 1-4 without reply. Denis O’Sullivan with the goal. 2-8 to 0-2 at half-time. Barra Ó Coinceannan with his sides point before the break.

Canovee scored 1-4 inside the first eight minutes of the new half. James Moynihan rounding the goalkeeper to tap home, 3-12 to 0-2. The losers kept going, and raised two white flags, from a Sean Ó Coill free and a Barra Ó Coinceannan effort with 15 minutes remaining. Canovee finished the remaining quarter in style, sending over five points.

The second round 1 game in Coachford was also a one sided affair, Kilmurry hammered Cill na Martra, 6-10 to 1-11. Sean Warren (2) and William Buckley with first-half goals for the winners.

The Gaeltacht side got off to the worst possible start on the resumption, conceding 1-1 in a minute, Brehanu with the goal from close range. That was quickly followed by Cill na Martra’s scoring burst, 1-1 in two minutes, Micheál Ó Deasúna with the green flag, 4-5 to 1-7 after 40 minutes.

Kilmurry added their fifth goal before the third quarter, Jonathan Buckley’s shot nestled into the corner of the net. The winners sixth goal came from the penalty spot ten minutes from time through Joe Ryan, 6-7 to 1-7. Cill na Martra didn’t give up and scored four of the final seven points.
