Inniscarra         0-14

A determined Aghinagh overcame the challenge of a fancied Inniscarra side in this Ross Oil JAFC first round clash at Kilmurry. Declan Ambrose was an inspired figure for the winners registering 1-4 in the second half when the need was greatest. Inniscarra will be disappointed as they enjoyed plenty of possession while they also missed a penalty at a crucial stage of the game.

Inniscarra’s registered the opening scores of this lively championship encounter through Sean O’Donoghue and Tomás O’Connor. Aghinagh replied with a placed effort from their impressive youngster Micheál Horgan. Inniscarra dominated possession in the opening quarter and further scores from Dan O’Connell and O’Donoghue increased their advantage, 0-4 to 0-1 after 15 minutes.

Slowly but surely Aghinagh warmed to the task and a brilliant individual run by Declan Ambrose resulted in a top class save from Inniscarra’s goalkeeper Dominic Kelleher. The victors found themselves back on level terms after converted frees from Mikey O’Brien and Micheál Horgan. Sean O’Donoghue landed a very difficult 45 to ensure his side led by 0-7 to 0-5 at the break.

On the resumption, O’Donoghue landed another brace from placed efforts before being hauled down for a penalty after a fantastic defence splitting run. Dan O’Connell’s effort was well saved by William Ambrose before Conor Buckley crashed the rebound off the crossbar. It certainly proved a turning point as Aghinagh immediately landed points from Sean Horgan and Micheál Horgan before Ambrose toe poked to the net in a goalmouth scramble.

Ambrose was magnificent in the closing stages and landed a couple of outstanding points from play to edge his side three points clear. Inniscarra’s Dominic Kelleher received a red card after an off the ball incident while Sean O’Donoghue’s last minute 20m free went over the crossbar.
