 Vaughan inspires Uibh Laoire....

Uibh Laoire        4-11-
Canovee             1-12

Uibh Laoire dug deep to see off the challenge of Canovee in the opening round of the Ross Oil JAFC at Macroom last night. Substitute Cathal Vaughan bagged 1-4 in the closing stages as his side trailed by two points with six minutes to go. The Inchigeela talisman is returning from injury but turned the course of the game with some stunning scores. The final score line is certainly tough on Canovee who had lorded the midfield battle for most of the game with some outstanding play from Eamonn Lyons.
Canovee dominated the opening passages of play with points from Darragh Ring and Sean O’Connor while Brian O’Donoghue fisted to the net after seven minutes. Uibh Laoire eventually settled with some classy play from Chris Óg Jones netting 1-1 at the end of the first quarter. However Canovee replied in great style and landed three points without reply from Mark Healy, James Moynihan and Aidan Murphy. Uibh Laoire were surviving on limited possession and Barry Murphy converted a beauty from distance to leave his side trailing by 1-7 to 1-3 at the break.
Canovee extended their lead after the break with a magnificent long range effort from Sean O’Connor but the Inchigella outfit replied with good scores from Chris Óg Jones and Barry O’Leary. Darragh Ring converted two placed efforts which left his side leading, by 1-10 to 1-5 after 40 Minutes.
Shortly afterwards, Cathal Vaughan entered the fray and converted a long range free before brilliantly setting up Brian Cronin for a superb goal. Vaughan landed the equaliser with a majestic long range effort but James Moynihan edged Canovee in front with a quality point from out on the wing. Canovee goalkeeper Cormac O’Driscoll denied Chris Óg Jones a certain goal with a great save but Vaughan landed 1-2 in a blistering five minute spell for his side. Jones completed the scoring with a fine individual effort on the stroke of fulltime.
